What is psyllium fiber

Psyllium plant originates from Iran and certain regions of India and has been cultivated for its seeds, used in traditional herbal medicine. Well known for the husks that relieve constipation, psyllium also has several topical uses.

I don't want to argue about the usefulness of fibre, I think that is common knowledge, but in the article there were a lot of "may help with" and "can be of benefit" statements which actually say nothing. Equally they may not!! Perhaps we don't eat enough fibre as a rule, but please can we have hard facts about its benefits, not simply assumptions or guesswork.
