Incandescent versus saving

If every U.S. household replaced

just one incandescent bulb (!)

with an energy saving one

the country would save:

  • over $600 million in energy cost
and
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions by levels equal to those produced by more than 800,000 cars

Here in New Zealand it is becoming increasingly difficult to buy the old type lightbulbs so that most people now use the new energy saving ones. They are gradually being phased out of circulation and will very shortly be a thing of the past.
We depend largely on hydro power although more and more windfarms are being built, so that with global warming and less rain, we are ever power conscious and there are often campaigns to save power consumption. All good.
