My Christmas tree

spruce Christmas tree

I think this is the most perfectly shaped Christmas tree we've ever been able to find and I really enjoy the smell and the fullness of the branches.  This year we didn't have too many decorations to hang on our tree. On the contrary, we could use more! :)

Since I don't usually overdo decorating, we didn't run out to buy another box of ornaments. For years now I've been only buying glass ones and the bright ones (my favorite) that stand out on the tree are hand-crafted of straw. I bought them in Slovenia in 1999 if I remember correctly.

My straw ornaments come in a shape of a star, an angel, a bell and a pine cone. I wish I could get a lot more of them!

Christmas decorations

Anyway, this is what our dining room looks like at the moment - and I purposely keep walking by - to catch a glimpse of the tree and aromatic smell of the spruce tree that reminds of of my childhood, when I went for a walk in the woods - full of conifers - every day.

angel Christmas centerpiece

Centerpiece from the photo above is a result of a funny coincidence (and of course I know there's no such thing as coincidences!)... ;)

While we were unpacking all the decorations, I all of a sudden saw several different pieces that were a perfect match for this centerpiece. Too bad the picture doesn't do it any justice...

poinsettia with ivy

And finally, my poinsettia with ivy - which I also enjoy very much. Ivy is another significant plant from my early years. My mom had one in the kitchen. It grew several times around all four walls and looked really neat.

So, that's my how my Christmas season looks on the outside - the part anyone can see.

Inside my heart, it's full of sweet memories and happy moments from the past and present. I hope so is yours.

The straw decorations sound really interesting. I would love a closer look.
We don't have a tree now, but when the children were little all our decorations were made by them. Nothing fancy but they were oh so proud of what they could make.

Oh I love those straw ornaments! We have some ourselves, we got them from Germany. They really do have a different style of decorating trees in Europe than in other areas of the world!

I must agree with you; it is a perfect Xmas tree. We went for one that is more branchy this year so we could hang up lots of things.

I love the rest of your decorations too

Your tree is a perfect shape and I like how you did not over decorate. I just completed getting my tree up this week and almost finished all the decorating in the house. Now onto the remaining shopping...got to love this season just no time to relax.

Daria, what a lovely post! You made me smile :)

Your straw snowflakes really stand out beautifully in the photo - it's nice to have treasures like that to use year after year, isn't it?

My tree is a Charlie Brown (which I love) tree because my husband cut it at the side of the road. We had a 'Naked Christmas Tree Party' and all the guest brought an ornament to decorate the tree - it's very cute - and has so much meaning to me because I know which ornament is from whom - and I can tell they put thought into what they brought - or made!

I really like your poinsettia with the ivy too - although I have bad memories of ivy because it overgrows buildings and is difficult to get rid of...

That is a very nice tree. Personally I prefer ornaments to look more chaortic and personal, but that may just be justifying how completely messy mine look :)

I've actually been able to keep my poinsettia alive this year! I can't wait till we get a house and are able to put up a live tree.

Cute tree! We just got ours yesterday, and it's not much taller than me (I'm a shortie), letting the branches fall before we decorate :)

So beautiful.... I don't have space for a tree. We make due with a wreath on the front door. Happy Holidays!

It's a perfect tree. I like that there's not too many decorations, just the right amount. I always over decorate mine.
